Look Gilly - a boat named after you!

Gilly relaxing!

Happy Birthday Gilly for 1st July.

Woke up to a bright sunny day and the wind had dropped so we set off up the River Little Ouse. It is a very quiet river with very few moorings and we only passed one boat in the whole 4 hour journey.

Tom took the helm for the whole journey and I sat in my chair with a book in the front of the boat. It was really peaceful with lots of wildlife to keep it interesting including this lone black swan.

When we reached the end of our journey at Brandon Lock we were able to moor easily, as there were no other boats around. We were unable to go through the lock as our boat is too long but there is very not very much river the other side that is navigable anyway.

We set off on our bikes to explore the area. There are two American air bases nearby and also there is obviously a large Polish population as all the signs are written in both english and polish.

Although the village is quite pretty, the housing in the back streets indicated a growing population, so yet another place has been crossed off the retirement list.

We went for a walk a little later and then sat out in the sunshine talking to various people who were out enjoying the sunshine.

This is a very pretty location to moor for the night and it feels very safe.
