Saturday 6th June 2009

It poured with rain all night and into the morning. I had a walk into the village of Yardley Gobion and bought the newspaper, before settling in to wait for Cathy and Simon. We had managed to find a postcode to feed into the SatNav and they said the journey was straightforward.
After a quick coffee and catch up, Simon took the helm with Tom by his side, while Cathy
and I stayed inside gossiping! Luckily it had stopped raining by the time we set off, although the sun never did shine.

Cathy and Simon cheerful as always

This is a very friendly stretch of canal with lots of hire boats having a riotous time. We were moored next to a hen party and two boats passed with all the lads dressed as pirates - it looked great fun.
We moored at Cosgrove, which was about an hour away and found the local pub The Barley Mow for a meal. We hadn't seen Cathy and Simon for many months so we had lots to talk about. Before we knew it, it was 1830hrs and we made our way back, with Simon turning the boat very expertly without hitting anything, which is more than Tom and I achieve sometimes.
When we got back to the original mooring where their car was parked, we settled down for another couple of hours before at 2200hr they decided they had better go as they had the drive back to Essex.
The day had flown by and it was so nice to see them again, and also nice to know we will be seeing a lot more of them this summer.
