Thursday 3rd July

We left our mooring at about 11.30am and travelled to Ely to get an idea what the mooring is like for next week. As you approach you can see the cathedral in the distance and it looks very majestic.

Ely embankment was also a lively vibrant place. There are 48 hour moorings provided with no return within 48 hours. Evidently this is monitored to stop people having extended stays. Most of the moorings had already been taken so when we return we will make sure we have an early start. The trouble is we haven't managed an early start yet!! How did we ever work?

Just as we were leaving Ely we had a downpour of rain which lasted for about an hour - we moored up and had a cup of tea. In no time the sun was shining and we set off for the River Lark, a tributary off the Gt Ouse.

This is a pretty river but again very quiet and we didn't pass any boats on our five hour trip to the end of the navigation. We moored up at the pub Judes Ferry, only to find our neighbours from the previous night were already here.

We had a meal in the pub with them and the food was really good - much better than last night's pub.
