Tuesday 8th July

A local bird who has seen better days
Not so much a chocolate box cottage, more an After Eight as it is so slim!

For some reason we were wide awake at 5am - we had a cup of tea and then the next we knew it was 9am.

Luckily it was dry and bright - sunny would be going too far as there was a definite nip in the air. We were a bit tied for time as I had booked a hair appointment for 2pm, but managed to have another walk around town. It is surprisingly small and everything including the cathedral, museum etc are situated within minutes of each other. There are no big stores like M@S etc but local people go to Cambridge or Newmarket, both of which are nearby.
We are going to visit the cathedral tomorrow - it looks so spectacular from the outside. There is also a guided tour of Oliver Cromwell's house so might go for that too if we have time.
The marina where we are moored is full of big "Gin Palaces". We are the only narrowboat in this part, so have had a few strange looks. There are a handful which are moored in the far corner on the other side but this river is predominantly used by cruisers and of course, as we are getting near Cambridge, rowing clubs abound.
Th cruisers tend to go quite fast and don't slow down when passing other boats and the rowers seem to think that we have the ability to move faster than we can, to get out of their way. It can be a bit hair raising at times.
